The deadline is 26th August 2012, Sunday.

People often ask why they should run for a position in the committee and I wonder why not. Firstly, being in any committee, no matter how miniscule, is always impressive. Just imagine how it would reflect upon you if your resume stated that you served/represented your fellow coursemates (all 4 levels). Secondly, the commitment is not as heavy as it seems because the cohort is only so big and there are only a few major events in a year. The other administrative work and small scale events will not take up as much time and will be very enjoyable to execute, especially if the exco is chummy and crappy lol. Lastly, if you like bootlicking your professors, being the committee might help you get closer to them teehee.

So stop thinking it through already and fill up the form!

Welcome freshies (and the not so fresh ones) to a wonderful semester of mugging funJ

If you don’t already know, we will be holding our MSE AGM soon enough. That means we will be electing the 7th MSESIG committee! 

The MSE comm organizes a series of welfare activities throughout the academic year to foster camaraderie among the cohort, and also act as a bridge between the department and the students.

Last year, we organised/assisted in a few milestone events, such as the sale of mse t-shirts, welfare packs giveaway, NUS Open House and our annual get together event: T.G.I.O. It has been a very humbling and enjoyable experience serving our own coursemates and we hope to have enthusiastic fresh blood step up to this challenge. 

NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!! The positions available and their respective job descriptions are listed below.

President
  • Plan and direct activities in accordance to the aims of the group 
  • Oversight of the Executive Committee(EXCO) , and chair all its meetings 
  • Oversight of the Treasury of the group 
  • Represent the group in dealings with external organisations 

Vice-President
  • Assist the President in his/her duties 
  • Assume oversight of the EXCO and chair its meetings in the event of absence of the President 

General Secretary
  • Keep detailed and accurate minutes of all EXCO meetings 
  • Supervise Year Reps in keeping detailed and accurate contacts of all group members 
  • Assist the EXCO in official correspondence 
  • Ad-hoc admin, including maintaining the official group email. 

Treasurer
  • Manage the treasury of the group 
  • Monitor the expenditure/income of the Group, ensuring the balance is healthy 
  • Review financial transaction of the group 

Director Of Publicity (Publications)
  • Oversight of all outreach efforts 
  • Maintenance of the group website/blog 
  • Informing of upcoming events 
  • Updating of past events 
  • Drafting of letters and emails 

Director Of Publicity (Multimedia)
  • Design Publicity Posters 
  • Create miscellaneous designs e.g tickets, shirts and chops 
  • Handle new media such as flash , websites, videos and photograph 

Business Director
  • Source for sponsors for MSE events 
  • Update and organise sponsors lists 
  • Work with publicity to cater to sponsors’ marketing needs 
  • Ensure the success of welfare pack giveaway 

Year Representatives
  • Represent his/her peers 
  • Assist general secretary in keeping detailed and accurate contacts of all group members in his/her respective year 
  • Assist Director of Publicity in outreach effort to his/her respective year
