MSE Exco Networking Session@THE Helipad.

Student Leaders' networking session @ The Helipad

Hi all !

We had a wonderful night @ The helipad for student leader networking session organised by OSA as we had free flow of alcoholic house pour from the bar , get to talk and know the other student leaders from other society and clubs in very comfortable environment and the buffet food makes the night even better. The scenery from the helipad is awesome as well and we were quite fortunate to sign up for the event to gain exposure to events like this. Here are some of the pictures.

PYJAMAS PARTY

In case you've been living under a rock with no internet connection nor news from the outside world, we'll be having our very first MSE PYJAMAS PARTY as the after-party for our 1.5K Event!

What's a pyjamas party?

Actually most of you have been to one; if you've stayed over at a friend's house, in school (for camps etc) or inviting your friends to your own house for a sleepover. Basically the general idea is that friends get together for a night of fun, sleepover, and this is often made more interesting with the idea of wearing pyjamas.

Of course we won't be wearing pyjamas for nothing. You know why people dressed up for prom? Why people bothered to slap on inch-thick make-up for halloween? It's all for getting into the spirit of the party itself!

Well, we don't expect you to come in heavy make-up nor pretty frilly dresses and definitely not shirtless for the guys (because I do know that some boys sleep semi-naked. Case in point: my brother and father), but do have the decency to come in proper pyjamas!

Often a favourite choice for many, but strictly, no FBTs allowed. You can come in other kinds of shorts, but make sure it sticks close to our theme!

We're not forcing you guys to wear and certainly not gonna bar you from entry if you choose not to participate in the 'dressing up.' But then again, it'll look awfully out-of-place if you're the only one not geared up, no? And all those pictures would definitely look much more interesting and memorable!

Haha, I know the guy looks pretty creepy, but my point is, you can even wear nightcaps too! I'm gonna come with a santa hat (if I can find one) since it looks like a nightcap, and it's the month of christmas!! Killing two birds with one stone, yup.

Discussion on our facebook page is strongly encouraged! You don't wanna turn up in the same pyjamas as someone else, do you? Wait, maybe you do.

So bring your favourite set of PJs, have an awesome stayover, and whip your hair back and forth.

Go add yourself to our Facebook page if you haven't already, hor.

ATTENTION MSE UNDERGRADUTES!

As promised, here are more details regarding the 1.5k Event! Since our first email, we have received many curious questions, and sorry for dodging them! We were waiting for the dust to settle and slowly biding our time. Now, this is the time to DISCLOSE THIS TOP-SECRET INFORMATION.

Haha, that's because some people said we were being 'mysterious.' I like (:

Now now, what can I do to persuade you to come?

Would telling you that great food would be served? And in fact, JAPANESE FOOD?

Hmm, doesn't the look of seaweed induces the smell and crispness of it in your mind now? The soft rice, the tender fillings, yum! And of course, all these are halal, so EVERYONE can come enjoy this one-of-a-kind buffet! I know for sure myself am sick of fried beehoon, or fried rice at catered buffets. So let's all eat JAPANESE! But of course we won't swing totally to the Land of the Rising Sun, so we provide other kinds of food also! For those who love warm, cooked food (:

At such an important event, you can be sure to meet important people, who can help you now, or in the future. Professors and seniors would be there to share their wisdom and experience with you in an informal and relaxed setting. Perhaps over a cup of drink, you could find what you could do to secure that career you've been thinking about.

For the year 1s and year 2s, I know you would think that this is too early to do any kind of social networking, but trust me, anything starts from young. People would need time to observe and assess if you would be of an asset to them, and if you manage to capture the eyes of potential mentors or employers early, who knows, you may be well on your way to a bright future!

Oops, sorry for sounding all business-y and boringggggg.

But I stand by my point. To the year 3s and year 4s, I hate to say this, but more than half of your life as a NUS Honours Ugrad is gone. This would be a good opportunity to find out more about relevant industries and your future, whether to further your studies, or step out into the working world. Even for those who are already decided, why not just come on down and listen to what those who really are working now have to say? After all, it is already the end of the year, and I'm sure everyone is entitled to relax once in a while (:

This is getting lengthy... Ho-hum. Alright, I promise it's gonna end soon!

I know Christmas is a good 15days away from our 1.5k Event, BUT,wouldn't this be the perfect opportunity to jump straight in to the festive mood?

Yup this is champa-, I mean sparkling juice.

Tentatively we will be holding a pajamas party! Before images of cotton and feather and dust flying everywhere occupies your thoughts, hold it! We are very civilised people and you just simply prepare a set of pajamas if you're staying overnight with us. All these is just like Christmas Eve, no? Waiting for Santa Claus to drop presents by our bedside... But that's highly unlikely unless you win our lucky draw (:

Everyone just sit in a tight and cozy circle, sharing unfortunate events of romantic past, scary encounters of the supernatural, or simply just talking nonsense through the night. Statistics (by the unreliable me) has shown that people bond, through sharing. We get to know what they hold most dear to them, and what hurts them worse than anything else. Aw, c'mon, these are your friends whom you're gonna see and work with for years to come! It wouldn't hurt to get to know them a little better right? Some might even become your best man, bridesmaid, or even the significant other-half.

Being situated near Changi Village has its perks too! All those good supper food... And 'eye-candies' would jolt even the sleepiest snorlax awake.

Okay okay I promise I shan't be naggy! I've done what I can, so whether you go or not is up to you... Btw, the registration website is just on the right side.

Oh for the very last point, if you go, you get to see me! (and all the other MSE EXCO also lah!)

FAQ (1.5K Event)

Why is this called the 1.5k Event?
This is an indication of the amount of effort and money we are putting in to ensure everyone has a fun time, with great food for the night, and comfortable rest area for people who are planning to stay overnight.

What is this event about?
It is a night for get-togethers, for the past, present, and future of MSEngineers to meet-up, reunite, and forge new friendships.

What are the highlights of this event?
Firstly, we understand how often than not a catered event usually has a bad buffet for the night and mar the otherwise splendid atmosphere. As such, we have employed a quality buffet dinner for all to enjoy while having fun at the chalet.

Secondly, to further spice up the event, we will also be holding a lucky draw, where the top prize is an attractive brand-new mp3 worth over $200!

Thirdly, our after-party definitely need the game side of you, and bring the wild side out of you (:

Is there a discount to the cost fee? (e.g. only go for an hour, not eat, etc)
Sorry, but as we are planning a massive mega event for you, we would definitely need your financial support as well! This $5 not only ensures you the above, but you may stand a chance to win at our lucky draw!

How to we get there and could we drive there?
Details regarding the directions and parking area will be released later!

Could I bring another person along? (e.g. my wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, etc)
As this is a private MSE event, only MSE personnel would be invited. However, should you see the need to bring another person along, do drop us an email (following the link on the right).

Where do I register?
Here!

MSE SHIRT (:

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

See anything in common?

These shirts represent their school, their heritage, and their belonging.

For us, we have our very own MSE Shirt too!!

This is a shirt we hope will stay with you guys forever... past, present, future. This is a tie-in with our massive big-scale end-of-year event, the 1.5k event. Just hold on, and we will release the details very very very soon! For many years, the MSESIG has come up with various designs, but none of them was catered to all MSE personnel. As such, your 5th MSESIG EXCO has came up with this:

PhotobucketPhotobucket

The words represent our depth of knowledge; the gold represents our superiority. We used a simple design, yet sophisticated enough to bring out what matters most to us: BCC/FCC.

Nah, just kidding!

Of course, the shirt is our pride, our joy, and our enthusiasm in studying the structure of materials. As Prof Gong Hao has said (during the MSE Sharing Session 2010): The world is made of materials, you can't escape them. (Pardon me if I remembered wrongly). We tell the world that we are the ones who gave them the materials to construct whatever they want. We tell the world that we are the ones who give them new materials to build their dreams. We are the MSEngineers.

The MSESIG is funded kindly by the MSE department, and all students of MSE who have participated in our events one way or another. With your continuous support, we hope to bring MSESIG to greater heights, to make MSE known (no more 'huh, is that from science?') and to bond all of you in our little community. Really, we would have been nothing without you, so don't stop showering us with love okay!! (:

To the seniors: even though we haven't said anything, but we are grateful for all the notes and tips passed down generation to generation. All these are invaluable and unattainable from class. It is your experience we treasure and cherish. We do hope that you would get this shirt, not just because we need money, but we hope to create an identity in the MSE bunch. A shirt that links you to your course, to your friends from college, and even new friends that you might meet at the 1.5k event.

This shirt is for sale to everyone in MSE. As of today, we have received enthusiastic response and we thank you all for your kind support. For those who are still hesitating, better act fast before the early bird special of $12 is gone!! For those who are not keen on buying, kindly drop us an email at mse.committee@gmail.com to tell us why. Remember, we are a student-initiated group, aimed to protect the welfare and interest of our students (among many other things of course!)

Still not convinced?
