MSE Chill and Career Talk 2013

The NUS 8th MSESIG has proudly presented our "MSE Chill and Career Talk 2013" at the Chill Lab of NUSS Guild House to our fellow MSE community! Our first undergrads-alumni event has provided a platform for our MSE family to mingle and share. Through this sharing session, it has enlightened our MSE undergraduates about the various companies, job applications, writing essays for research opportunities and internships. Food and beverage were catered for the MSE community during the event.

Our intentions and decision to organise this event was rooted to the fact that many current MSE students are worried about their job prospects and unsure about their future directions, of which should they continue to pursue graduate programs or directly apply for jobs. This event provided an excellent opportunity for them to clear their doubts and give them a clearer picture of their future paths after graduation. We hope that through this event, students would get a better idea of what kind of careers they would like to be involved in, after their undergraduate studies. 

In addition, we will like to express our gratitude to the alumni. Their willingness to share their views and experiences to the undergraduates during this event, contributed to the success of the event! The event would not be possible without their active participation.

The committee also hopes that through the MSE events that we organise throughout the year, the MSE community would be able to maintain strong bonds among each other and also with the alumni.

The 8th MSESIG EXCO

Greetings everyone!

It is of great pleasure to welcome the new team of MSESIG Exco, which will continue to serve the MSE family for another year. The 7th MSESIG Exco has stepped down from their duties, and we wish the 7th MSESIG committee members all the best of luck in their future endeavors and challenges.

Below is the 8th MSESIG Executive Committee:

And, for this year, there is no year representatives.

MSE 8th EXCO POSITIONS, NOW AVAILABLE!

Hi all.
 
7th MSESIG EXCO warmly welcome all students to the new semester. This August, we are holding a recruitment drive for the 8th Material Sciences and Engineering Student Interest Group (MSESIG) EXCO. The MSESIG EXCO is a group of MSE students dedicated to looking after the welfare of their peers and provide assistance wherever necessary. The EXCO undertakes tasks that may prove to be challenging and accepts certain responsibilities that are required of them. They are the voice for their peers and they represent and uphold the pride of the MSE community. Below are some of the key positions and their job scope.
 
KEY POSITIONS
 
President (21 years old and above, Current appointment holder: Patrick)
- Plan and direct activities in accordance to the aims of the group
- Oversight of the EXCO and chair all its meetings
- Oversight Treasury of the group
- Represent the group in dealings with external organisations
 
Vice-President (21 years old and above, Current appointment holder: Jaystine)
- Assist the President in his/her duties
- Assume President roles in the event of his/her absence
 
General Secretary (Current appointment holder: Issac)
- Keep detailed and accurate minutes of all EXCO meetings
- Supervise Year Reps in keeping detailed and accurate contacts of all group members
- Assist the EXCO in official correspondence
- Ad-hoc admin, including maintaining the official group email
 
Treasurer (21 years old and above, Current appointment holder: Alex)
- Manage the treasury of the group
- Monitor the expenditure/income of the group, ensuring balance is healthy
- Review financial transaction of the group
 
Director of Publications and Multimedia (Current appointment holders: Yu Zhong and Marcus)
- Oversight of all outreach efforts to all students (NUS email blasts, Facebook and Twitter, etc)
- Designing of publicity materials (e.g event posters) and MSE merchandise (e.g MSE shirt)
- Maintenance of MSE website/blog and Facebook group
- Updating of past events
- Recruitment of 1 Director of Publications and Multimedia for 8th MSESIG EXCO as roles are combined
 
Director of Marketing (NEW)
- Sourcing of sponsorship for MSE events
- Update and organise sponsor lists
- Work with publicity to cater to sponsors' marketing needs
- Ensure the success of welfare pack giveaway
 
Year Representatives
- Represent his/her peers
- Assist General Secretary in keeping detailed and accurate contacts of all group members in his/her respective year
- Assist the Director of Publications and Multimedia in outreach efforts to his/her respective year

Voting for the 8th MSESIG EXCO will take place during the Annual General Meeting to be held on 30th August 2013

MSE Welfare Pack 2013!

Hi all! hard at work studying? MSESIG is here to help out! the MSE Welfare pack is back in action, and it is held on the 5th of April, 12-2.30pm outside LT6! Be there or be square! :)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

1. ONLY MSE ppl can take the goodie bag

2. You and your own matric card MUST BE present or no goodie bag is given.

3. You are NOT allowed to collect on behalf of others.

4. MSESIG reserves the right to not give a goodie bag to anyone should they feel that there is a reason behind it regardless of reason stated.

5. No exchanges of goodie bags are allowed at the counter.

6. Every MSE Student is only entitled to ONE goodie bag.

7. Once the goodie bags have been given out, no extra demands will be tolerated.

Why is it so expensive you ask? it is because we are only going for the best prints and good shirts :) so quality comes first yes! :D we are materialists after all!
